וַֽיְהִי־ל֞וֹ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים בָּנִ֗ים רֹֽכְבִים֙ עַל־שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים עֲיָרִ֔ים וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים עֲיָרִ֖ים לָהֶ֑ם לָהֶ֞ם יִקְרְא֣וּ ׀ חַוֺּ֣ת יָאִ֗יר עַ֚ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֥רֶץ הַגִּלְעָֽד׃
E aveva trenta figli che cavalcavano trenta asini, e avevano trenta città, che fino ad oggi si chiamano Havvoth-jair, che sono nel paese di Galaad.

They owned thirty towns. They owned thirty unwalled municipalities. This is why they are described as עַיָרִים, "towns", meaning the same as עַיָירָוֹת.2Rather than עָרִים meaning walled cities.
