Halakhah su Ecclesiaste 3:78

Contemporary Halakhic Problems, Vol III

Centuries ago King Solomon wrote, "For everything there is a season, and a time for every object of desire under the heavens. … A time to be silent and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace" (Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 3:7-8). Events of the summer of 1982 illuminate the juxtaposition of the last two verses. Indeed, there is a time to speak of war and of peace and a time when political and military considerations augur for silence. Unfortunately, the lesson that emanates from these biblical verses is not understood by all.

Sefer HaChinukh

It is from the roots of the commandment [that it is] since God, may He be blessed, created His world and wants its settlement; and the settlement of the world is established by the delivery of the weak from the hand of the one stronger than he. And also because the eyes and heart of the pursued are always to God to deliver him from the hand of his pursuer. And [it is] like the matter that is written (Ecclesiastes 3:15), "and God seeks the pursued" - meaning to say that the pursued seeks God and pleads with Him. Therefore, Blessed be He, commanded us to help him.
