וְהָיָ֗ה כָּל־הַנּוֹתָר֙ בְּבֵ֣יתְךָ֔ יָבוֹא֙ לְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֣ת ל֔וֹ לַאֲג֥וֹרַת כֶּ֖סֶף וְכִכַּר־לָ֑חֶם וְאָמַ֗ר סְפָחֵ֥נִי נָ֛א אֶל־אַחַ֥ת הַכְּהֻנּ֖וֹת לֶאֱכֹ֥ל פַּת־לָֽחֶם׃ (ס)

E avverrà che chiunque sarà rimasto nella tua casa verrà a prostrarsi davanti a lui per una piccola moneta d'argento e una pagnotta di pane, e dirà: “Aggregami, ti prego, a uno degli incarichi sacerdotali, perché io possa mangiare un pezzo di pane”.»

(2) When he is smitten by troubles or suffers poverty and he now needs people whereby he previously did not need them, and he becomes submissive to them, and his spirit becomes too broken to be arrogant in his situation, as written: "And it will be that everyone who is left in your house, will come to prostrate himself before him for a silver piece and a morsel of bread"(Shmuel 2:36).

Due to his not being sufficiently zealous in standing up for G-d, and exacting justice (i.e. protesting - TL) from men of his generation, as you know from the story of Eli and his sons, as the verse says "And it will be that everyone who is left in your house, will come to prostrate himself before him for a silver piece and a morsel of bread" (Shmuel 2:36).
