Kabbalah su Numeri 21:40

Zohar

According to Rabbi Yosi, this verse refers to the exile. For at first, the light descended from the supernal depth, and Jacob took it with him and went to (pour it) on Beer-Sheva. This is, "the well that the princes dug out" (Num. 21:18), here Jacob received his illumination, and perfected the well (Heb. beer) in all its wholeness. During the days of exile, he wanders from Beer-Sheva to Charan, as written, "and went toward Charan that is, to fierce indignation (Heb. Charon). What is the fierce indignation of the Holy One, blessed be He? It is the evil grade, the land of the dominion of another.

Zohar Chadash

And they set out from Hor Hahar through the way of the Sea of Reeds. That is that the group stopped studying the Talmud, which is called Hor HaHar. Why is it called Hor HaHar? Because from there comes teaching [hora'ah] to the world, as "I have written to instruct them [lehorotam]" (Exodus 24:12) - and this is the Oral Torah [Mishnah, Talmud and Midrash].

Zohar Chadash

And they [Israel] went left her and on her way, and went after the way of the snake Akalton, which reigns in the land of Edom, so it says "the soul of the people became smaller in the way" this is because they left the way of life, and so they "spoke against God and Moshe" [Moshe represents the Shechinah]. They rejected all: the Oral Torah and the Written Torah. "There is no bread" - this is the Oral Torah. "There is no water" - this is the written Torah. And this is "kelokel bread" - the words of the Oral Torah were light [kal] in their eyes.

Have I not said to you, I shall be clear (Ps. 19:14), for he will be a healer (Isa. 3:7)? He who utilizes the Daughter of a Voice will become rich. There is none who aggrandizes himself to say (I Kings 1:5), learn Gemara. And if he is a poor man, he sleeps on his pledge (Deut. 24:12) and rides on a donkey (Zech. 9:9); he glorifies himself in the hidden wisdom and its tumult, and delights in it (Isa. 5:14). There is no spirit within him (Hab. 2:19), and the living will take it to heart (Eccles. 7:2), for with stratagems will we wage war (Prov. 24:6), with a fortiori [reasoning] and equivalent statements in the bundles of Mishnah, and from the desert a gift (Num. 21:18) [by] which man will live (Ps. 89:49), if he will be as a horse or a donkey not to understand (Ps. 32:9) the laws of God, positive and negative. He tells his words; in keeping them there is great reward (Ps. 19:12) to complete their commandments in the most acceptable way.

Zohar

Rabbi Acha bar Jacob, said that a divine voice resounded, saying: "new and old, which I have laid up for you, O my beloved" (Shir Hashirim 7:14). "I have laid up for you" in these same worlds. "for you" means because of you, because you are a holy and clean body. Another explanation is that these mandrakes are the Angels of Peace. "give a fragrance" refers to souls, the fragrance of the world; "give" means to allow, as it is written, "and Sichon would not allow Yisrael" (Num. 21:23).

Zohar Chadash

When Israel returned in teshuvah then they sang a song. And those are the seven levels that they returned with their song, and the higher well was raised high, and the snake disappeared from the world. This is what is written "Then Israel sang" (Numbers 21:17) "raise well, answer to it", and the lower mother [malchut, our reality] is infused with the higher mother [binah, understanding]

Derech Etz Chayim (Ramchal)

If man was mindful of this knowledge sinners wouldn't exist, temptation wouldn't even wield power, similar to its irrelevance to angels. G-d wanted man to conquer or to be conquered via temptation and his subsequent choices, and therefore gave us this knowledge that remains latent as a flame is within a coal. Our sages of blessed memory have said (Bava Batra 78b): "Wherefore they who speak in similes (Hamoshlim) say, Come to Ḥeshbon..."(Bamidbar 21:27), 'Hamoshlim' (who speak in similies) - refers to those that control their inclination, "Bo'oo Heshbon (Come to Heshbon) - Come and let us calculate the account (heshbono) of the world! Those that do not conrtol their inclination will never prioritize this - However, those that do control their inclination will practice this and teach others to act as well.
