We [would have liked to] say that the meaning of the verse a prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon shigeonot is that [the prophet] was praying before his Master concerning his “infatuation.” This, however, is impossible for several reasons: 1. The verse does not concern itself with confession of sin, for “confession of sin” is nowhere written. [2.] Moreover [the verse] should [then] read “errors” (shegiot and not shigeonot). [Such] a verse exists: Who can understand errors? (Ps. 19:13). Alternatively, [let the verse read] “mistakes’ (shegagot).
