Having learned the Written law from those who are compared to heaps of grain¹⁹⁴The Midrash Tanchuma compares Torah Sages to heaps of grain. [Torah Scholars], who understand how to examine the Written Law; He began to study “These are the Laws,”¹⁹⁵Shemos 21; the sixth chapter in the book of Shemos which details many of the laws dealing with criminal behavior. and with malicious intent, read the verse: “If one kidnaps a person and sells him, if he is found in his hands, he shall be put to death.”¹⁹⁶Shemos 21:16. In the “Midrash of the ten murdered martyrs” (version III) it is written, “Once Luliano Caesar decided (to study the Torah), he brought ten Sages to interpret the Scriptures for him. He read about the sale of Yosef (by his brothers) and also that if one kidnaps a person, he is put to death.”

Mighty One, Who is near to those who call Him and hears [the prayers of] the needy, judge the plight of the poor and needy, render judgement for the oppressed and persecuted. The fate of high and the low are in Your hands, Master of masters. Let my sentence come from You as a bright light, Almighty of faithfulness. The Almighty is not like man that He should lie, that He should change His word, yet You have decreed: “At the end of six years set free the [Hebrew] bondsman”;⁷See Exodus 21:2. and many times six years have gone by me although I have not loved my masters.⁸See Exodus 21. The servant could opt to remain in the service of his master if he loved him. And if I was sold to a heathen, and was not released after [six] years, the duty of ransom falls on the kinsman, and You are my Kinsman and Redeemer. Adonoy! Hear my voice in the morning.

Pay them back sevenfold, slay them dead, let them be stoned, and let the sword of Adonoy consume them. Raise up Your children from the pit, and let the one who prepared the pit pay.¹¹I.e. let our oppressors pay for their deeds. Based on Exodus 21:34.
