But the seventh day is a Sabbath for Adonoy, your God; you may do no work—you, your son, and your daughter, your manservant and your maidservant, your animals and the stranger who is within your gates. For in six days, Adonoy made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and He rested4Rashi comments that the word וַיָנַח, “and He rested,” is used figuratively for one cannot say that God actually worked or rested.
