엘리사가 저를 떠나 돌아가서 소 한 겨리를 취하여 잡고 소의 기구를 불살라 그 고기를 삶아 백성에게 주어 먹게 하고 일어나 가서 엘리야를 좇으며 수종들었더라
Tze'enah Ure'enah
“He turned back from him and took the yoke of oxen, etc.” [19:21]. Elisha turned back, took the pair of oxen and slaughtered them. He did not want to take time to chop wood to cook the meat and he took the wood [of the yoke] and cooked the meat and fed it to the same people who had been plowing. These people accompanied him on his way. They ate and afterwards, Elisha followed Elijah and became his servant.

He cooked the meat for them. He cooked for them the meat, so do Dunash and Menachem explain, and so did [Targum] Yonoson render [בשלם] as two words [בשיל להון]. But I say, that it is unnecessary to divide it into two words, and what is the meaning of “בשלם הבשר”? He cooked the two oxen, their flesh, for צמד is a minimum of two.
