"a checkered shirt."9Vayikra, 28:4 lists the כתנת תשבץ as one of the garments worn by the Kohanim. Both the word הַּשְׁבֵּץ there and the word הַשָּׁבָץ here share the same three letters, ש־ב־ץ.
