The Third Beit HaMikdash
The prophecy continues: “My servant David shall be their prince forever.” This prophecy was not fulfilled in the era of the Second Beis HaMikdash, when the kings were the descendants of the Chashmonaim, who were kohanim. True, initially, there was a governor from the tribe of Yehudah, as mentioned in the words of Ezra,22See Ezra 6:7. Chaggai,23See Chaggai 1:1, 2:2. and Zechariah,24See Zechariah 4:6-10. but his rule was not perpetuated.
