Beside this there are other commandments which cannot be properly fulfilled without knowledge of Torah and of this wondrous science. These [commandments] are the love and fear of God. They are commandments addressed to us in the Torah. [Concerning] love, it is written, You will love the Lord your God (Deut. 6:5). [Of] fear it is written, You will fear the Lord your God (Deut. 6:13, 10:20). If one does not comprehend the awesome majesty of His divinity, His separation from the rest of the existents, the origin of all that exists from Him as well as the number of degrees which exist until [His] providence reaches this lowly world, how can one fear Him?

Tiferet possesses the Name of twenty-two [letters] which comes out from May the Lord bless you (Num. 6:24). Neẓaḥ has another Name of twenty-two [letters]. Hod has a Name which stems from the verse You will fear the Lord your God (Deut. 6:13, 10:20). Yesod possesses twelve permutations of the four[-letter] Name. Malkhut has the Name Metatron.1On the angel Metatron, see Scholem, Kabbalah, pp. 377-381. I have explained the meaning of these Names at length in the book Pardes [Rimmonim].

However, know that HaShem-יהו״ה, blessed is He, stated in His Torah,248Deuteronomy 6:13 “HaShem-יהו״ה your God shall you fear, Him shall you serve, and in His Name shall you swear,” and it states,249Deuteronomy 10:20 “HaShem-יהו״ה your God shall you fear, Him shall you serve, to Him shall you adhere, and in His Name shall you swear.” Similarly, it states,250Deuteronomy 4:4 “You who adhere to HaShem-יהו״ה your God, are all alive today.” Therefore, know and trust that there indeed is truth to the mystery and form of the purity of one’s limbs, and that it indeed is possible for a person to attain adhesion (Deveikut) to the Indwelling Presence of HaShem-יהו״ה, even though “He is a consuming fire.”251Deuteronomy 4:24Nevertheless, this is a fire in which those who adhere to the Shechinah, the Indwelling Presence of HaShem-יהו״ה, indulge and delight, provided they are of pure soul, which is called “the flame of HaShem-יהו"ה.”252Proverbs 20:27 – “The soul of man is the flame of HaShem-יהו״ה.” It is through this adhesion that they kindle the flame of their soul. It is to the Indwelling Presence of HaShem-יהו״ה, that the soul adheres and yearns for, as will soon be explained, with the help of HaShem-יהו״ה, blessed is He.
