Alternatively it is possible that [the word br’syt can be rearranged] as t’r ybs (“dry form”) as in [the verse] Joseph was well formed [t’r] and handsome (Gen. 39:6). Created [in the verse would thus] refer to Tiferet, which “created” on high.²⁵From the union of Tiferet and Malkhut, all souls are created. Cf. Matt, Zohar, p. 217. And, as Rabbi Simeon bar Yoḥai explained many times, ‘Elohim signifies Malkhut. Thus [returning to the verse] and the earth, which refers to the river and the sea will be dry and parched, was formless and void, as we will explain.
