Mekhilta DeRabbi Yishmael, Midrash Tanchuma & Shemot Rabbah

Mekhilta DeRabbi Yishmael

(Exodus 14:7) "And he took six hundred choice chariots": Whence came the horses required for the chariots? If you would say, from Egypt, is it not written (re the plague of pestilence, Ibid. 9:6) "and all the cattle of Egypt died"? And if you would say, from Pharaoh, is it not written (Ibid. 3) "Behold, the hand of the L–rd is in your cattle in the field, in the horses, etc."? And if you say, from Israel, is it not written (Ibid. 10:26) "And our cattle, too, will go with us; not a hoof will remain"? Whence, then, did they come? From those (of his servants) who feared the word of the L–rd (viz. 9:20) and drove his horses from the field into the houses. We find, then, that the cattle driven off by those who feared the word of the L–rd proved to be an impediment to Israel — whence R. Shimon says: "the best of the gentiles — kill! The best of the serpents — crush its head!"

Midrash Tanchuma

And he took six hundred chosen chariots (Exod. 14:7). Whose beasts drew the chariots? If you should say they belonged to the Egyptians, has it not already been said: And all the cattle of Egypt died (Exod. 9:6)? If you should contend that they belonged to Pharaoh, has it not already been stated: Behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thy cattle (ibid. 9:3)? If you should assert that they belonged to Israel, has it not already been written: Our cattle also shall go with us, there shall not a hoof be left behind (ibid. 10:26)? To whom, then, did they belong? They belonged to the slaves of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord. Hence we learn that even those who feared the word of the Lord were a stumbling block to Israel. Because of this verse, they say: “The best among the Egyptians, kill; the best among serpents, crush its brain.”

Mekhilta DeRabbi Yishmael

"Arise go out from the midst of my people, both you (the adults) and the children of Israel." I said (Ibid. 24) "Only your flocks and herds leave in place," and you said (Ibid. 25) "You, too, shall place in our hands sacrifices and burnt-offerings" —
