Rashi

Ani vehu - it is the numerical count [gematria] of, Please, Lord (Psalms 118:25). And it is also from the 72 names [of God] that are embedded in three adjacent verses in Parashat Beshalach: And it moved, etc. And it came between the camp [...] And Moses held out his arm (Exodus 14:19-21). Each of them has 72 letters, from which the explicit name [is composed. The 72 names are formed as follows:] The first letter of the first verse, the last one of the middle [verse], and the first one of the last [verse]. And likewise in this order [for] all of them. The first name is Vehu, the vav of And [Ve] it moved, the hey of the whole night [lilah], and the vav of And [Ve] he held out. And the 37th name is Ani, the alef of from [meh] behind them, the first nun of the cloud [anan] going backwards, and the yod of an eastern [kadim] wind.

English Explanation of Mishnah Sukkah

Every day they went round the altar once, saying, “O Lord, save us, O Lord, make us prosper” (Psalms 118: 25). While circling the altar the people would recite Psalms 118:25, which is a plea to God to save us and bring us prosperity. Since Sukkot is the holiday on which we pray for the beginning of the rainy season, it is likely that the prosperity which they were praying for was rain.
