나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 너희는 이 사람이 무자하겠고 그 평생에 형통치 못할 자라 기록하라 이는 그 자손 중 형통하여 다윗의 위에 앉아 유다를 다스릴 사람이 다시는 없을 것임이니라

ערירי, “I have no son who can take my place.” Compare Jeremiah 22,30 כתבו את האיש הזה ערירי כי לא יצלח מזרעו איש יושב על כסא דוד, “record this man as without succession; one who shall never be found successful, for none of his offspring will be accepted to sit on the throne of David.” (the subject of this curse is כניהו son and heir of Yehoyakim)

childless [Hebrew: ‘aririm] The Sadducees [a derogatory reference to Karaites — Translator] claim that this word is a synonym for “naked” [Hebrew: ‘arumim] [Genesis 2:25] and that they will die means “they will be executed”; but they are wrong. The Aramaic translation is correct. I have elsewhere explained the phrase “write this man childless” [Jeremiah 22:30] along the lines of “I remain childless” [Genesis 15:2].

and I will make you as a signet In contrast to what was decreed upon his father Jeconiah (Jer. 22: 24): “As I live, says the Lord, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, be a signet on My right hand, from there I will remove you.” [Jeremiah further] states there (ibid. 22:30): “Inscribe this man childless.” We learn that his repentance availed [Jeconiah], and Zerubbabel was born to him, and he was made as a signet.
