There were also six names of the tribes on one part of the breastpiece, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, and Naphtali. They were inscribed on a precious stone of the breastpiece, and Issachar, Zebulon, Gad, Asher, Joseph, and Benjamin were written on the other precious stone of the breastpiece, and the two precious stones were onyx stones. They took a worm that was called shamir and they laid it on the stone and it engraved the names of the tribes. The ephod was a garment as wide as the person’s back, down to his feet. Two shoulder bands were on each side, and on each shoulder band was an onyx set in gold and on each onyx was written the names of six tribes.9Bahya, Exodus, 28:10.
