וְחַלּוֹנִ֨ים ל֤וֹ ולאילמו [וּלְאֵֽילַמָּיו֙] סָבִ֣יב ׀ סָבִ֔יב כְּהַחֲלֹּנ֖וֹת הָאֵ֑לֶּה חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים אַמָּה֙ אֹ֔רֶךְ וְרֹ֕חַב חָמֵ֥שׁ וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים אַמָּֽה׃
I miała ona okna, a niemniej przysionki dokoła jak one okna poprzednie na pięćdziesiąt łokci długości szerokość zaś na dwadzieścia i pięć łokci.
Rashi on Ezekiel
were like these windows [Heb. כְּהַחַלנוֹת.] Rabbi Tanhuma expounded (Buber, Behaalothecha p. 48): This “hey” is superfluous, to indicate the term כֵּהָה, dark. Dark windows, wide on the outside and narrow on the inside, as if to say, “I do not need the light,” for all windows made to bring in light are narrow on the outside and wide on the inside.
