וַיִּצְעֲק֣וּ אֶל־יְהוָ֗ה וַיָּ֨שֶׂם מַֽאֲפֵ֜ל בֵּינֵיכֶ֣ם ׀ וּבֵ֣ין הַמִּצְרִ֗ים וַיָּבֵ֨א עָלָ֤יו אֶת־הַיָּם֙ וַיְכַסֵּ֔הוּ וַתִּרְאֶ֙ינָה֙ עֵינֵיכֶ֔ם אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂ֖יתִי בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וַתֵּשְׁב֥וּ בַמִּדְבָּ֖ר יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃
Quando clamaram ao SENHOR, ele pôs uma escuridão entre vós e os egípcios, e trouxe o mar sobre eles e os cobriu; e os vossos olhos viram o que eu fiz no Egito. Depois habitastes no deserto muitos dias.

And He brought the sea upon “him.”4Why is the singular עָלָיו, upon him used in the text? Rashi goes on to explain its significance. He brought the sea upon each individual among them. If it happened that one of them ran away, in order not to enter the sea, a sea-wave would pursue him and catch him.
