Lamentações 2:2 Comentário: Rashi & Tze'enah Ure'enah

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“Laid waste” [2:2]. God has laid waste and did not have pity on the houses of Jacob. He has dispersed, with His anger, the strongholds of Judah. He has brought them down to the earth. He has diminished the kings of Israel and their nobles. The Midrash writes about this verse that He exchanged the angels. That is to say, the angel who ruled over fire, the Holy One now placed him over water. The Holy One did this with every angel that was connected to Israel. Previously, they could adjure the angels who had been placed over them with [holy] names. Now however, if a Jew adjured the angel who ruled over fire, the same angel would answer, I am not the ruler of fire and then the Jew could do nothing to help himself.13Lamentations Rabbah, 2.5.

Rashi

He has desecrated the kingdom and its princes. These are the Israelites, who were called, “a kingdom of kohanim.”7Shemos 19:6.

And its princes. Midrash Aggadah [states] that these are the heavenly princes8It cannot mean ordinary princes because they are included in the previously stated ‘the kingdom.’ (Sifsei Chachomim) [whose appointments] He changed. The one appointed over fire He appointed over water, and He changed all the appointees because there were among the wicked of Yisroel those who knew the Ineffable Name of God, and they relied that they could invoke the heavenly princes to save them from fire, water, and sword. But now, when he would invoke the prince of fire by his name, he would reply, “This dominion is not within my power,” and so all of them.
