וְהַבַּ֗יִת אֲשֶׁ֨ר בָּנָ֜ה הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה שִׁשִּֽׁים־אַמָּ֥ה אָרְכּ֖וֹ וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים רָחְבּ֑וֹ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אַמָּ֖ה קוֹמָתֽוֹ׃
Ora, a casa que e rei Salomão edificou ao SENHOR era de sessenta côvados de comprimento, vinte côvados de largura, e trinta côvados de altura.
The Third Beit HaMikdash
Thus, the height of the Sanctuary itself – not including the other levels above it – differed in the First and Second Batei HaMikdash. In the Second Beis HaMikdash, the Sanctuary was 40 cubits high, while in the Beis HaMikdash built by King Shlomoh, it was 30 cubits high, as Rashi states in his commentary to II Chronicles, and Radak states in his commentary to I Melachim.9See I Melachim 6:2. Therefore, we have no way to determine how high the Sanctuary – or the levels above it – will be in the Third Beis HaMikdash. Fortunate is the one who knows!
