Comentários de Citação sobre Números 33:53

Hasagot HaRamban

That we were commanded to possess the land which God, may He be exalted, gave to our forefathers—to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob—and that we must not leave it in the hands of others from among the nations, nor leave it desolate. [*] This is what He said to them: "And you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for to you I have given the land to possess it" (Numbers 33:53), and "And you shall inherit the land which I swore to your forefathers." He specified for them in this commandment its entirety, with its borders and boundaries, as He said: "Go to the mountain of the Amorites and to all its neighbors, in the plain, in the mountain, and in the lowland, in the Negev and by the seacoast..." (Deut. 1:7), so that they should not leave any place within it [unsettled].

TURN YOU, AND TAKE YOUR JOURNEY, AND GO TO THE MOUNT OF THE AMORITE etc. He mentioned to them the Land and the road that they are to traverse in their stages, and afterwards He said, Behold, I have set the Land before you which I swore to your fathers; go in and possess the Land67Verse 8. — this being a command, not just an assurance and promise, as I have explained.68Numbers 33:53, Ramban thus reiterates here his theory that the precept to conquer the Land of Israel is included in Taryag (six hundred and thirteen) mitzvoth which are binding for all times; that we are not to leave it in the hands of other nations, that we are not to leave it to waste, and that we are to dwell in it.
