Komentaryo sa Eclesiastes 7:20: Tze'enah Ure'enah, Rashi & Kohelet Rabbah

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“For the person” [7:20]. It is correct that each person should search and think about his deeds in order to repent, since there is no righteous person in the land who does not have sins.98Rashi, Ecclesiastes, 7:20.

Tze'enah Ure'enah

Another explanation is: “Wisdom is a stronghold” [7:19]. This means that wisdom protects the wise person from ten organs of the person. They are the two eyes that see all the sins, the two ears that hear all the idle talk, the two hands that steal and rob, the two feet that take the person to his sins, and the mouth speaks and the heart desires.99Rashi, Ecclesiastes, 7:21.

Rashi

For there is not a righteous man on earth. Therefore, he must examine his actions.50Rashi is explaining the previous verse [Above 7:19], where one could question that instead of stating that wisdom encourages a person to repent, would not wisdom deter one from sinning altogether. Therefore Scripture declares that “there is not a righteous man...who...never sins.”
