Komentaryo sa Ruth 4:9: Tze'enah Ure'enah

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“Boaz said” [4:9]. Boaz said to the elders and the people, you are witnesses today that I have bought everything that belonged to Elimelech and everything belonging to Machlon and Chilion, from the hand of Naomi. I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Machlon, as a wife and to establish the inheritance of the deceased in order that the name of the deceased should not be cut off among his brothers. You are witnesses today at the door of the Sanhedrin of his city. The plain meaning is that because Boaz purchased the field from Ruth and when Ruth will be seen coming and going in and out from the field of Machlon, people will say about the field of Machlon, this is the field of Ma- chlon her husband, and it will be as if Machlon were still alive and he will be remembered often.
