Ngayon nga, huwag kayong magdalamhati at huwag ninyong ikagalit sa inyong sarili na ipinagbili ninyo ako rito, sapagkat upang mapanatili ang buhay ay isinugo ako ng Diyos na mauna sa inyo.
Ibn Ezra
מעצבך From thy hardship. Judah is addressed. מעצבך from thy hardship refers to the sufferings of the body, מרגזך from thy trouble to those of the heart.1This distinction between עצב and רנז can only refer to the relative meaning of these two words, when following each other; but עצב by itself is used also for the trouble of the heart and soul; comp. Gen. 45:5, 1 Sam. 20:34. A. V, From thy sorrow and from thy fear.
Ibn Ezra
ועצבו And vexed. Comp. אל תעצבו be not grieved (Gen. 45:5). And vexed His holy spirit. This is a figurative expression. Some understand by the holy spirit the angel of the Lord.17In order to remove the anthropomorphism. Comp. Targ. Jonathan וארגיזו על מימר נביאי קודשיה they acted provokingly against the words of His holy prophets. He fought against them till they left His land.
Ramban
LEST THOU COME TO POVERTY, THOU, AND THY HOUSEHOLD. Joseph said this by way of respect for his father. To his brothers he said, For G-d did send me before you to preserve life,39Verse 5 here. and to give you a remnant,40Verse 7 here. but to his father he did not want to say so. Instead, he said, “that if you will delay in the land of Canaan you will be impoverished for I could not send you much food from the royal storehouse as they will suspect me of selling it there in order to accumulate treasures of money and then return to my land and to my birthplace. But when you come here, and they will know that you are my father and brothers, the king will give me permission to sustain you.”
Rashi
He sent a man before them (Gen. 45:5): “And God sent me before you.” Now who was the man? Joseph, who was sold.
