“When they heard” [1:21]. The nations heard me sighing and nobody consoled me. All my enemies heard my anger and they rejoiced. You, God, have made all this, that they should hate me, since You, God, commanded us not to eat with gentiles and not to marry gentiles.11Lamentations Rabbah, 1.56. Therefore, do not have pity on us and on our children. We would that You, God, bring on the gentiles one day, everything that has happened to us.

Rashi

For it is Your doing. You caused them to hate me when You separated me from [partaking of] their food and drink and from intermarrying with them. If I had intermarried with them, they would have had compassion upon me and upon their daughters’ children.

Bring the day that You proclaimed. If only you had brought upon them the appointed day that You proclaimed upon me.
