און דער מבול איז געװען פערציק טעג אױף דער ערד, און די װאַסערן האָבן זיך געמערט, און זײ האָבן געטראָגן די תּבֿה, און זי האָט זיך אױפֿגעהױבן איבער דער ערד.
Guide for the Perplexed
THE word ram (high) is a homonym, denoting elevation in space, and elevation in dignity, i.e., greatness, honour, and power. It has the first meaning in “And the ark was lifted up (va-tarom) above the earth” (Gen. 7:17); and the latter meaning in “I have exalted (harimoti) one chosen out of the people” (Ps. 89:20); “Forasmuch as I have exalted (harimoti) thee from amongst the dust” (1 Kings 16:2); “Forasmuch as I exalted (harimoti) thee from among the people” (1 Kings 14:7).
