The Third Beit HaMikdash
“On the flank on the outside on the ascent of the entrance to the northern gate there were two tables and on the other flank, [to the west], there were two tables. Four tables on one side and four tables on the other side near which [the sacrifices] were slaughtered.”3Ibid.:40-41. This verse should be understood as follows:
“On the flank” towards the opening of this vestibule on the east. “on the outside” of the inner space of the inner entrance to the vestibule, which is positioned towards the Courtyard of the Israelites “on the ascent of the entrance to the northern gate” as one entered the gate and ascended the steps to the entrance to the courtyard, on the eastern flank of the entrance “There were two tables and on the other flank, [to the west], there were two tables.” Thus, there were a total of “four tables on one side and four tables on the other side near which [the sacrifices] were slaughtered.”
