וְנִסְכֵּיהֶ֗ם חֲצִ֣י הַהִין֩ יִהְיֶ֨ה לַפָּ֜ר וּשְׁלִישִׁ֧ת הַהִ֣ין לָאַ֗יִל וּרְבִיעִ֥ת הַהִ֛ין לַכֶּ֖בֶשׂ יָ֑יִן זֹ֣את עֹלַ֥ת חֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ בְּחָדְשׁ֔וֹ לְחָדְשֵׁ֖י הַשָּׁנָֽה׃
און זײערע גיסאָפּפֿער: אַ האַלבער הין װײַן זאָל זײַן צו אַן אָקס, און אַ דריטל הין צו אַ װידער, און אַ פֿערטל הין צו אַ שעפּס. דאָס איז דאָס בראַנדאָפּפֿער פֿון רֹאש-חוֹדש אין רֹאש-חוֹדש פֿאַר די חדשים פֿון יאָר.
Mishnah Shekalim
On the first of Adar they make a public announcement about the shekels and concerning kilayim. On the fifteenth: they read the Megillah [Esther] in walled cities, and they fix the roads and the streets and the ritual water baths, and they perform all public duties, and they mark the graves, and [messengers] go forth also concerning kilayim.
