וְאַף֙ כִּֽי־הַיַּ֣יִן בּוֹגֵ֔ד גֶּ֥בֶר יָהִ֖יר וְלֹ֣א יִנְוֶ֑ה אֲשֶׁר֩ הִרְחִ֨יב כִּשְׁא֜וֹל נַפְשׁ֗וֹ וְה֤וּא כַמָּ֙וֶת֙ וְלֹ֣א יִשְׂבָּ֔ע וַיֶּאֱסֹ֤ף אֵלָיו֙ כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וַיִּקְבֹּ֥ץ אֵלָ֖יו כָּל־הָעַמִּֽים׃
און פֿאַר װאָר, װי דער װײַן טוט פֿעלשן, אַזױ װעט דער שטאָלצער מענטש ניט אָנהאלטן; דער װאָס מאַכט ברײט װי די אונטערערד זײַן באַגער, און ער װעט װי דער טױט ניט זאַט, און זאַמלט צו זיך אַלע פֿעלקער, און קלײַבט צו זיך אַלע אומות.
Deuteronomy
You replied and said to me, ‘‘We have sinned to Adonoy. We will go up and wage war in [fulfillment of] all that Adonoy, our God commanded us.’’ And each of you girded his weapons, and you got ready to go up the mountain.
Proverbs
If the righteous one is paid [i.e., punished for his evil deeds] upon this earth, how much more so [will retribution come (in this world or the next) to] the wicked one (who persists in) sinning.
