Tafsiran Amos 3:4: Rashi & Tze'enah Ure'enah

Rashi

Will a lion roar in the forest if he has no prey—When a lion lays hold of its prey, it customarily roars, and it does not roar unless it has taken [prey]. Similarly, Scripture states: (Isa. 5:29) “He will roar like the lion cubs, and he will growl and lay hold of prey.” Similarly, (ibid. 31:4) “As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey.”

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey?” [3:4]. A parable. Just like a lion, when he roars in the forest, all the animals stand still from fear of the lion. The lion can come and take whatever prey it wants. So are the nations against you. They take whomever they want and nobody does anything.6Radak, Amos, 3:4.

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“Does a young lion cry out from its den, etc.” [3:4]. If a leopard gives its great outcry and would not have found its food?
