Tafsiran Yeremia 46:22: Tze'enah Ure'enah & Rashi

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“She shall rustle away like a snake, as they come marching in force, etc.” [46:22]. The people of Egypt will scream, like the snake screamed when its feet were chopped off. When the snake screamed, the scream was heard in the whole world.6Genesis Rabbah, 20.5; Rashi, Jeremiah, 46:22. Egypt will similarly scream when many people with axes will come. They come like woodchoppers.

Rashi

Its voice shall go like [that of] the snake The “snake” comes to teach us about Egypt but ends by learning. For we learn from here that when the Holy One, blessed be He, said to the serpent, “You shall walk on your belly” (Gen. 3:14), He severed his feet, and his voice went to the end of the world. So we learned in the ‘Thirty-two Methods of Rabbi Eliezer the son of Rabbi Jose the Galilean’ (Method 12).
