Kabbalah Yesaya 33:24: Sha'arei Orah

At times, this Divine quality is called by the term, The sword that avenges breaches of the covenant-Cherev Nokemet Nekam Brit-חרב נוקמת נקם ברית. It is this quality that always dwells in Jerusalem (ירושלם).¹⁴¹Our sages, of blessed memory, explain that the name Jerusalem-Yerushalayim-ירושלם-586 refers to the fear of HaShem-יהו״ה, blessed is He, and is thus equal to “perfect fear-Yirah Shalem-ירא״ה של״ם-586” (See Midrash Bereishit Rabba 56:10). It afflicts Israel constantly, like an ever-present judge always ready to render judgement. When this quality would afflict them, it would exact them of their debts and their willful sins and transgressions, until they all became righteous-Tzaddikim. Because of this, they stated that this quality is called righteousness-Tzedek-צדק, since it exacts and cleanses them of their sins, thus making them righteous (Matzdeket-מצדקת). This is why the verse states,¹⁴²Isaiah 33:24 “Those who dwell [in Jerusalem-ירושלם] will not say, ‘I am sick’; the people dwelling there shall be forgiven of sin.”
