וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוּדָה֩ לְתָמָ֨ר כַּלָּת֜וֹ שְׁבִ֧י אַלְמָנָ֣ה בֵית־אָבִ֗יךְ עַד־יִגְדַּל֙ שֵׁלָ֣ה בְנִ֔י כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר פֶּן־יָמ֥וּת גַּם־ה֖וּא כְּאֶחָ֑יו וַתֵּ֣לֶךְ תָּמָ֔ר וַתֵּ֖שֶׁב בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיהָ׃
Lalu Yehuda berkata kepada Tamar, menantunya, “Tinggallah sebagai janda di rumah ayahmu sampai Syela, anakku, sudah besar.” Sebab pikirnya, “Jangan-jangan ia pun mati seperti saudara-saudaranya.” Maka pergilah Tamar dan tinggal di rumah ayahnya.
