וַיְהִ֣י ׀ כְּמֵשִׁ֣יב יָד֗וֹ וְהִנֵּה֙ יָצָ֣א אָחִ֔יו וַתֹּ֕אמֶר מַה־פָּרַ֖צְתָּ עָלֶ֣יךָ פָּ֑רֶץ וַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ פָּֽרֶץ׃
Namun ketika ia menarik kembali tangannya, ternyata saudaranya yang keluar. Lalu bidan itu berkata, “Betapa kuat engkau menerobos! Engkau telah membuat terobosan bagi dirimu sendiri!” Maka ia menamai dia Peres.
Targum Jonathan
And after the child had withdrawn his hand, behold, his brother came forth, and she said, With what great power hast thou prevailed, and for thee will it be to prevail; for thou wilt possess the kingdom. And she called his name Pharets.
