Poi mi disse: 'Profetizza al respiro, profetizza, figlio dell'uomo, e dì al respiro: Così dice il Signore DIO: Vieni dai quattro venti, respiro, e respira su questi uccisi, affinché possano vivere.'
Shaarei Kedusha
As explained, the admixture of good and evil permeated all worlds, even the upper, spiritual worlds. This being the case, the soul of man was also affected, for was it not hewn from the same four spiritual elements from which all the supernal beings were formed? These four elements are the four letters of HaShem’s name11(י) Yud :d’s name are -The four letters of G Hey (ה) Vav (ו) Hey (ה)., blessed is He. About this it says12Ezekiel 37:9, “From the four spirits, come O spirit etc.” This “spirit” that comes is the essential soul of man from the side of goodness. However, G-d made everything with its opposite. Just as the upper spiritual worlds are the source of goodness and purity, so He created a source of evil and impurity. This is the Sitra Achera (The Other Side) which is called Adam BliYaal (The Incorrigibly Evil Man). It is made up of four sources of destruction13 These are called the “Fathers of Damages (אבות נזיקין).and four indicators of plague14מראות נגעים, which are its four evil elements. From there, an evil soul, which is called, “The Evil Inclination” (Yetzer HaRa), is drawn to man. If this soul overpowers the good soul, destruction, plagues and spiritual illnesses befall it. Moreover, if it is too overpowering, it can even cause spiritual death, G-d forbid.
Zohar
We learned in the Mishnah that four winds blow in the world, and the Holy One, blessed be He, will raise one spirit to establish the body to include four spirits, as it is written, "Come from the four winds, O breath" (or: spirit) (Yechezkel 37:9). It is not written, 'in the four,' but, "from the four winds," for it will be composed of the four of them. We learned that this spirit (or: wind) is the wind that procreates, the wind that eats and drinks. And there is no difference between this world and the days of Messiah's coming, save the delivery from servitude to the empires alone, and there is no difference between this world and the resurrection of the dead, save cleanliness and the attainment of knowledge. Rav Nachman added longevity.
