גִּילִ֨י מְאֹ֜ד בַּת־צִיּ֗וֹן הָרִ֙יעִי֙ בַּ֣ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם הִנֵּ֤ה מַלְכֵּךְ֙ יָ֣בוֹא לָ֔ךְ צַדִּ֥יק וְנוֹשָׁ֖ע ה֑וּא עָנִי֙ וְרֹכֵ֣ב עַל־חֲמ֔וֹר וְעַל־עַ֖יִר בֶּן־אֲתֹנֽוֹת׃
Rallegrati molto, o figlia di Sion, grida, o figlia di Gerusalemme; Ecco, il tuo re viene a te, è trionfante e vittorioso, umile, e cavalca un asino, perfino su un puledro il puledro di un asino.

It is not the custom of the King and the Matron to ride a donkey (Heb. chamor), [Meaning, the literal understanding of the Torah is referred to as Chomer, which is similar to Chamor, and is comprised of wheat and the tree of knowledge of good and evil]. Instead they ride on horses. ['Horses' here corresponds to the secrets and mysteries of the Torah]. This is the meaning of, "you ride upon your horses, your chariots of salvation" (Habakuk 3:8). For Malchut is not treated lightly so as to have the Matron ride on a donkey, and even more so the King, for it is no place for commoners and servants, [The angel Metatron is called a commoner and servant] whose way is to ride a donkey. This is why it says of Messiah, "humble (Heb. ani), and riding upon an donkey" (Zechariah 9:9). Ani stands for the Mishnah orders of Eruvin, Nidah and Yevamot, [Ani also means "poor"] and the rest of the Mishnah in total. [ As long as a person does not know the mysteries of the Torah, but only knows the revealed Torah, one is "poor" in knowledge and it is like he is "riding on a donkey", which is the aspect of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. However, Hashem] is not considered a King until He rides on His horse, which is the Congregation of Yisrael [ This is Malchut/Kingship. See Song of Songs 1:9 "I have likened you, my darling, To a mare in Pharaoh’s chariots"].

Have I not said to you, I shall be clear (Ps. 19:14), for he will be a healer (Isa. 3:7)? He who utilizes the Daughter of a Voice will become rich. There is none who aggrandizes himself to say (I Kings 1:5), learn Gemara. And if he is a poor man, he sleeps on his pledge (Deut. 24:12) and rides on a donkey (Zech. 9:9); he glorifies himself in the hidden wisdom and its tumult, and delights in it (Isa. 5:14). There is no spirit within him (Hab. 2:19), and the living will take it to heart (Eccles. 7:2), for with stratagems will we wage war (Prov. 24:6), with a fortiori [reasoning] and equivalent statements in the bundles of Mishnah, and from the desert a gift (Num. 21:18) [by] which man will live (Ps. 89:49), if he will be as a horse or a donkey not to understand (Ps. 32:9) the laws of God, positive and negative. He tells his words; in keeping them there is great reward (Ps. 19:12) to complete their commandments in the most acceptable way.

And on it rode Elijah, and was taken to heaven, as it is written: "And Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind" (II Kings 2:11). And on it [Yov was answered] And Y"HVH answered Job from the whirlwind. And because of this the rabbis taught in the Mishnah: "who is strong? The one who conquers their impulses" (Avot 4:1). And there are those who are able to beautify their donkey, and it does not upset its rider. In that sense it is written about Avraham "and he saddled his donkey" (Genesis 22:3). And regarding the Mashiach it is said: "A poor person, riding on a donkey" (Zechariah 9:9).
