וּמָצָ֣אתָ אֶת־לְבָבוֹ֮ נֶאֱמָ֣ן לְפָנֶיךָ֒ וְכָר֨וֹת עִמּ֜וֹ הַבְּרִ֗ית לָתֵ֡ת אֶת־אֶרֶץ֩ הַכְּנַעֲנִ֨י הַחִתִּ֜י הָאֱמֹרִ֧י וְהַפְּרִזִּ֛י וְהַיְבוּסִ֥י וְהַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֖י לָתֵ֣ת לְזַרְע֑וֹ וַתָּ֙קֶם֙ אֶת־דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ כִּ֥י צַדִּ֖יק אָֽתָּה׃
e fondò il suo cuore fedele dinanzi a Te, e impazzì con lui un'alleanza per dare la terra dei Cananei, degli Ittiti, degli Amoriti e dei Perizziti, dei Gebusei e dei Girgashiti, anche per darli al suo seme e avere esegui le tue parole; poiché sei giusto;

Our forefather Abraham turned the evil instincts into good ones. What is the reason? (Neh. 9:8): “You found his heart trustworthy before You.” Rebbi Aḥa said, he compromised, from “concluding a covenant with him.” But David could not stand it and killed it in his heart. What is the reason? (Ps. 109:22) “But my heart is slain in me.”

What is the reason? (Ps. 109:22) “But my heart is slain249Taking חלל from the noun חָלָל “corpse” (or from Rabbinic Hebrew “empty space”), not from Biblical חיל “to tremble.” in me.”
