R. Nehemiah, in the name of R. Jacob b. Jannai, remarked on the text, As in water face answereth to face:¹⁶Prov. 27, 19. It is customary to have a master who desires to teach and a student who does not want to learn, or a student who desires to learn and a master who does not want to teach him; but in this case¹⁷viz. of God and Moses. the Master desires to teach and the student to learn.¹⁸V adds in parenthesis ‘Scripture and Mishnah, Gemara and ’aggadah’. The words are included in M and H.
