R. Hiya here cited the verse: “Hast thou caused the dayspring to know his place”, etc. (Job 38, 12). ‘Note’, he said, ‘that Moses was the sun, and when he desired to enter the land, God said to him, Moses, when the light of the sun arrives, the moon is embraced in it, but the sun and the moon cannot shine together; the moon cannot shine till the sun is gathered in.
