Greed is the father of all impurity. It brings to hatred and envy, as well as theft, false oaths and even murder. This prohibition is the last of the Ten Commandments and is equal to them all, since⁴⁵⁹Ecclesiastes 4:8 “his eye is never sated with wealth,” like the eye of the snake, about whom it states,⁴⁶⁰Isaiah 65:25 “The food of the snake shall be dust.” Similarly, it is written,⁴⁶¹Proverbs 28:22 “One who is overeager for wealth has an evil eye, he does not know that want may befall him.”
