The Talmud writes in [tractate] Baba Kamma, chapter eight, concerning the verse “he did not invite me your servant or Zadok the priest” [1:26]. From here we learn that sixty illnesses come to the wisdom teeth of one who sees eating and he does not eat. As a result, this tooth must be weak, as it is written, Nathan the prophet said to the king, all the servants of the king were invited to eat and I was not invited, said.21I Kings, 1:25–26. Other sages say there in the Talmud that we learn this from Abraham. It is written, “Isaac brought her into the tent” [Genesis, 24:67]. Abraham saw that his son had a wife. He became jealous and also wanted to take a wife. Therefore, it says immediately afterwards, “Abraham took another wife” [Genesis, 25:1]. That is, because Abraham saw Isaac take a wife, he also wanted to take a wife. From here we learn that sixty illnesses come to the teeth of those who see others eat.22B. Baba Kamma, 92b.

למען יאריך ימים, “so that he may prolong his life;” it is a well known fact that the burden of high office is bound to shorten the life of the people charged with it. In order to counteract this, the Torah provides the King with an antidote, i.e. regular daily Torah study. This is also why when the King is crowned, the crowd welcomes him with the shout: יחי המלך. “long life to the King!” (Kings I 1,25)
