R. Eliezer b. Jacob said: Whoever masturbates is as though he committed murder;⁶³Cf. Nid. 13a (Sonc. ed., p. 86). as it is stated, That slay [shoḥeṭë] the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks.⁶⁴Isa. 57, 5. Do not read shoḥeṭë but soḥeṭë (‘that squeeze out’). And the Sages said: He is as though he worshipped idols, as it is stated, Ye that inflame yourselves among the terebinths, under every leafy tree.⁶⁵ibid.
