I was handed over to Edom—²²Edomites are descendants of Esau, brother of Jacob. into the hands of my quarrelsome brothers²³Esau quarreled with Jacob over the birthright, and the blessings of their father, Isaac. who daily filled their bellies from my wealth.²⁴The Romans grew rich from the taxes they levied on the Jews. His help is with me to support my pillars; and You have not abandoned me all the days of my times.²⁵See Daniel 7:25. Praise God! The splendor of His Throne are flashes of fire.²⁴In Daniel 7:9, the Throne of Hashem is described as being composed of flashes of fire. His servants flame with fire,²⁵Tehillim 104:4. This refers to the angels who serve Hashem. a fire of great brightness sends forth lightning²⁶See Yechezkel 1:13. The “heavenly creatures” which sit at Hashem’s Throne are described as being of an intense brightness, which sends out lightning.; Rivers of fire flow by Him.²⁷In Daniel 7:10, a river of fire is described as coming forth from Hashem’s Throne. Mateh Levi says that the angels immerse themselves in this river before singing their songs of praise. The wicked are condemned and sentenced there, too. Therefore will He be exalted His fire consumes all other fires.²⁸In the Maseches Yoma 21b, our Sages say that the fire of Hashem’s Holy Presence (Shechinah) eats up fire. In Devorim 4:24, Hashem himself is described as a Consumer of fire.
