Halakhah sa Levitico 27:28: Mishneh Torah, Gifts to the Poor, Mishneh Torah, Rest, Mishneh Torah, Sabbath & Mishneh Torah, Negative Mitzvot

Mishneh Torah, Gifts to the Poor

If a poor person comes and asks for what is sufficient to fill his needs and one does not have the means to provide it for him, one gives according to his means. How much is this? One-fifth of one's assets is the best possible way, but one-tenth is the usual way. Less than this is a bad sign, and never should one restrain himself from a third of a shekel a year. Anyone who has not given at least this much has not fulfilled the mitzvah.132See Babylonian Talmud Bava Batra 9a. Even a poor person who lives on tzedakah is obligated to give tzedakah to another.133See Babylonian Talmud Gittin 7b.

Mishneh Torah, Rest

And court messengers may go out to render forbidden mixtures (kilayim) ownerless. And we may redeem captives, appraisals, expropriations and consecrated items. And we may give water to sotah women. And we may burn a [red] heifer. And we may behead the calf (required when we find someone killed in the field). And we may pierce [the ear of] an Israelite slave. And we may purify a metsora. And we may mark graves—the mark of which had gotten rubbed off by the rain—in order that priests (kohanim) separate themselves from them. As all of these are needs of the community.

Mishneh Torah, Sabbath

We may not judge, nor perform chalitsah, nor perform levirate marriage nor betroth a woman, [as a] decree lest one write. And we do not consecrate, nor appraise nor dedicate, since it is like buying and selling. And we do not separate priestly tithes and tithes, as it is similar to one consecrating the fruits that he separated; and also because it is like he fixes them on Shabbat. And we do not tithe animals, [as a] decree lest he mark [it] with red dye. But one may consecrate his Pesach sacrifice or his holiday (chagigah) sacrifice on a holiday, as this is the commandment of the day. And in the same way that we do not consecrate, so too do we not sanctify purifying waters (from the red heifer).
