Ohr Ne'erav

Does not wisdom cry out (Prov. 8:1) to the remnants of Israel to observe discretion (Prov. 2:11) [regarding] the secrets of wisdom (Job 11:6)? They praise the Lord with their throats (Ps. 149:6). In their right hand is fullness of joy (Ps. 16:11) and pleasantness. They direct their tongue with the pen of a ready writer (Ps. 45:2) who has studied and understood. He is frightened by the fools among the people. They walk in darkness, refined in the smelter of poverty and much servitude (Lam. 1:3) bordered with cords (Esther 1:6) of mockery, folly, and ignorance in the captivity of this host (Obad. 1:20) when vileness is exalted among the sons of men (Ps. 12:9). They are ignorant of the time to plant the tree of life in the midst of the garden (Gen. 2:9)

Sha'arei Orah

Now, eight Sefirot above this stone, is another stone-Even-אבן more precious than pearls.107That is, the eighth from below to above. This refers to the Sefirah of understanding-Binah-בינה, which is of the same root as “stone-Even-אבן.” She encompasses and surrounds all seven Sefirot below her, and is therefore called “Socharet-סוחרת,”108See Esther 1:6 – A type of precious stone. which is a word that also indicates something that encircles and surrounds, as in the idiom,109See Talmud Bavli, Shabbat 13a; Avodah Zarah 17a; Yevamot 46a; Pesachim 40b; Midrash Bamidbar Rabba 10:8, and elsewhere. “Go around, go around-Schor Schor-סחור סחור.” Thus, since this stone, that is, the eighth Sefirah called understanding-Binah, sits high above and surrounds and encompasses everything, it therefore is called “Encompassing-Socharet-סוחרת.” On the other hand, the second, lower stone,110Kingship-Malchut, as mentioned before. is the matter of the Indwelling Presence of HaShem-יהו״ה (Shechinah), which always dwells-Darah-דרה with the Jewish people and is called “Dar-דר,”111See Esther 1:6 ibid., that this refers to a kind of precious stone. in that she is a delightful dwelling place-Dirah-דירה.
