Tefillin: Whoever does not fulfill this mitzvah is called “A skull that has not donned Tefillin,” and will not rise in the resurrection of the dead.679See Talmud Bavli, Rosh HaShanah 17a However, all destructive forces and the nations of the world are in fear of one who dons them, and about him the verse states,680Deuteronomy 28:10 “Then all the peoples of the earth will see that the Name HaShem-יהו״ה is proclaimed over you, and they will fear you,” as Rabbi Eliezer says,681Talmud Bavli, Brachot 6a, 56a, and elsewhere. “This verse refers to the Tefillin of the head.” Regarding the coming future it states about such people,682Talmud Bavli, Brachot 17a “In the coming world the righteous sit with their crowns upon their heads, delighting in the radiance of the Indwelling Presence of HaShem-יהו״ה (the Shechinah).”

This great secret is necessary because of the principle that,12Talmud Bavli, Ketubot 11a “We do not obligate a person if he is not present.” Now, “if he is not present,” means that he does not have the presence [of mind] to understand the primary matter and reason. Because of this they also said,13See Rashi to Ketubot 11a ibid. – “One cannot act as an emissary on behalf of another person to obligate a person when he is not present, meaning, without his knowledge, whereas a child is not considered to possess knowledge-Da’at.” “A minor child cannot be made accountable [even in his presence].” The sages therefore necessarily said that the acts of creation were, “With their knowledge, with their full stature, and with their reason and agreement.” In other words, this comes to inform us that no creature can come and claim, “I was like a minor child, and it therefore was as if I was not present, and a person who is not present cannot be held accountable.” They therefore had to say that all creatures were created “with their knowledge, with their full stature, and with their reason and agreement.” That is, there is not a single thing in all of creation that was not created with knowledge, stature, and willingness.

In the Tikkunei Zohar (22nd Tikkun, verse 84) it explains about the importance of one who guards his Brit, which about him is said “And the nations of the world will all see that the name of God [YKVK] is called upon you” (Deuteronomy 28:10), because the name YKVK is imprinted on the Brit, as it says “Mi Yaale Lanu Hashamayma” (who will go upwards to heaven for us; 30:12) which is the acronym of “Milah” (circumcision) and the backronym of YKVK, and all of the prosecutors are afraid of him. It also says: 84. Therefore, one who observes the covenant of circumcision, which is the seal OF THE HOLY ONE, BLESSED BE HE, AS THE NAME SHADAI, death moves away from him, which is the Satan, AND IS the Evil Inclination, AND IS CALLED evil, defiled, northern, the Angel of Death. It will not come close to such a one, and he will not die at his hand.
