Sha'arei Orah

The meaning of this verse is, “Let the inhabitants of Jerusalem-ירושלם not say, ‘Why are we always sick with afflictions?’ For, this Divine quality, which is called The Court of Righteous Judgment-Beit Din Tzedek-בית דין צדק dwells there always and desires to make them meritorious, by exacting the debt of all their sins and iniquities, so that they will be righteous-Tzaddikim and worthy of life in the coming world. This is the meaning of the words, “The inhabitants [of Jerusalem-ירושלם] will not say, ‘I am sick’; the people dwelling there shall be forgiven of sin.” This is also expressed in the verse,143Amos 3:2 “You alone did I know from amongst the families of the earth; therefore I will hold you accountable for all your iniquities.”
