וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲדֹנָ֗י יַ֚עַן כִּ֤י נִגַּשׁ֙ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה בְּפִ֤יו וּבִשְׂפָתָיו֙ כִּבְּד֔וּנִי וְלִבּ֖וֹ רִחַ֣ק מִמֶּ֑נִּי וַתְּהִ֤י יִרְאָתָם֙ אֹתִ֔י מִצְוַ֥ת אֲנָשִׁ֖ים מְלֻמָּדָֽה׃
און גאָט האָט געזאָגט: װײַל דאָס דאָזיקע פֿאָלק האָט גענענט מיט זײַן מױל, און מיט זײַנע ליפּן מיך געערלעכט, אָבער זײַן האַרץ האָט ער דערװײַטערט פֿון מיר, און זײער מורא פֿאַר מיראיז װי אַן אײַנגעלערנט געבאָט פֿון מענטשן,
Mesillat Yesharim
Is it conceivable for us to exert our minds and labor in logical inquiries which we are not obligated in, in sharp discourses bearing no fruit, and laws which are not relevant to us - and that which is so great a debt to our Creator, we abandon it to habit and surrender it to rote practice?!
